I’ll say right away that I will not analyze in detail certain functions or characteristics of the device - I was more interested in the viability of the idea itself and the general ease of use. In addition, we have been in the hands of a prototype (quite stable, but a prototype), so some characteristics of the GD910 may well change by the time sales begin.

Appearance and design

The device is not at all feminine, solid and even to some extent brutal. A sort of healthy contraption made of metal and tempered glass. On my hand (and I’m over ninety meters tall), the LG watch looks large. In principle, one could put up with the height and width, but the thickness seemed excessive to me: the GD910 is about one and a half times thicker than my own Timex watch (also, in principle, rather large). It's nice that the strap is made of normal high-quality leather. I have heard the opinion that a metal bracelet would look better here, but I categorically reject this opinion: firstly, a bracelet is monstrous from an aesthetic point of view, and secondly, it would increase the already considerable weight of the device.

The watch has few buttons, only three. They are located on the right side (accordingly, the device is more suitable for right-handed people). Their functions, I think, are clear from the signatures.

At the back there is a round cover, like a real watch. It can be unscrewed with a coin, there is nothing underneath except the SIM card slot. There is an elastic band around the perimeter of the lid. This is done to prevent sweat from penetrating inside the case and destroying delicate electronics.

Next to the cover there is a contact group. To connect the watch to a computer or charger first you need to insert them into a special adapter with a clip-clamp, but a standard one is already inserted into the adapter interface cable LG.

At the beginning of this section, it was not for nothing that I mentioned tempered glass: the surface of the LG GD910 is very durable, I could not scratch it with keys or a knife.

Display

The most common TFT screen with a resolution of 128x160. It’s a pity, but it doesn’t have a mirror backing, so the readability of the display in the sun is very limited. Otherwise, there are no complaints about it. The screen is touchscreen, made using capacitive technology, that is, it does not react to styluses, nails, gloves and other objects.

Menu and controls

Personally, I was preparing for the worst in terms of ease of use, but the phone's interface turned out to be unexpectedly well thought out. By and large, all control comes down to horizontal or vertical finger strokes across the screen.

To wake up the phone from standby mode, you must press any key. A screensaver appears on the screen depicting a beautiful clock with hands.

Now with horizontal movements we move between different screens. This is what the “home screen” looks like: here you can quickly switch the profile (normal/silent), view events from the calendar, or switch the GD910 to airplane mode.

The dialing screen looks completely standard, and is controlled the same way: dial a number, press the key with the green handset.

And this is what the SMS dialing screen looks like. I’ll say right away that you can write messages using the LG GD910, but it’s not necessary - it’s a very dreary process.

Alarm clocks - like in every decent device, you can create several of them, each with its own settings.

An MP3 player - however, it is not entirely clear why it is needed when the built-in memory is 70 megabytes. You can listen to music through Bluetooth headphones with A2DP support.

And finally, the last of the LG GD910 screens is the calendar. Managing a calendar on such a small (and even touch) screen is a dubious pleasure. It’s easier to fill it out on your computer and synchronize it with your device.

LG GD910 as a phone

The connection quality of the LG GD910 is good; it can connect to the network at the same level as regular phones. Due to the design features, you can only talk without a headset in speakerphone. The speaker of the device screams very loudly, the microphone also does not let us down, so you can hear your interlocutors well, as well as they can hear you. True, there is no need to talk about any confidentiality of the conversation. But with a Bluetooth headset, the watch performed better. I used the Jabra JX10 Cara with them and had no problems. A long press on the center button activates the system. voice control(in our prototype it only supported English), and the device tries to recognize commands and names from the phone book that you say. You can say the number on English language and the device will dial it itself. For example, to dial the number 8-050-3836869 you need to say “Call eight zero five zero three eight three six eight six nine”. In my opinion, it’s easier to poke it several times on-screen keyboard. Unfortunately, lack of time did not allow us to make a video of the device in action, so we will insert a link to the official LG video demonstrating this feature.

In my opinion, the watch is most suitable for use as a simple “dialer” - simply because it has additional functions on a small touch screen It’s inconvenient to manage, especially with the calendar. As a last resort, you can still write messages on the GD910, but all sorts of players, currency converters and other fluff are not for it. By the way, in “dialer” mode the phone lasts about two days, but when used additional functions this time is reduced significantly.

Bottom line

As a result, we have an extremely unusual, beautiful and attractive gadget in all respects... which it is not clear who will use it. To immediately remove all questions, I will say that LG GD910 will arrive in Ukraine closer to the New Year, and the supply volumes will be very small, and the price will be exactly the opposite. More precisely, it will be noticeably higher than a thousand dollars, even closer to two thousand. In my opinion, any sane person in this situation would give up thoughts of purchasing a “watch phone”. As a result, it turns out that this entire small batch will probably go to very well-off exotic lovers. Another purchase option is as a New Year's gift to the director of some joint stock company from board members who truly love him. Don't forget that the LG GD910 already has a serious competitor - Samsung S9110, which will be sold in Europe at a price of about 450 euros. So far, Samsung has not announced its intention to bring its watches to Ukraine, but I personally hope that this will happen (and that the price of the S9110 will not jump to obscene heights).
